Adding AVAX to MetaMask is a key step to using C-Chain. This step has to be done manually, using the MetaMask dropdown menu. Open the wallet and view the selection of networks, with Ethereum set as default.

It is key to use only verified sources for the target network information. Malicious setup guides may give a wrong target for the network.
The valid data from the project’s own guide contain the right credentials to connect MetaMask to C-Chain.
For a new wallet, the above data is required just once, after which Avalanche C-Chain will appear among the options from the blockchain dropdown menu.
When a browser game asks for a wallet connection, it will also check MetaMask. If an error is displayed, the wallet is connected to the wrong network. MetaMask only has a C-Chain option and will lose any AVAX sent from a P-Chain or X-Chain addresses.
